且说宝玉自那日与史湘云相遇,心中便有许多感慨。他想道:“这个女孩儿,我怎么从来没有见过?她这样美丽,又这样聪明,真是令人惊叹。”他又想道:“我若能与她结为夫妇,此生何幸!”但他又想到自己已与林黛玉定婚,心中不免有些烦恼。

一日,宝玉到贾母房中请安,恰好史湘云也在那里。贾母看见宝玉进来,便笑道:“我正要叫你呢。你来得正好。”宝玉忙请了安,贾母便对史湘云道:“我听说你会作诗,不如和我孙子对一对如何?”史湘云微笑道:“孙奶奶过奖了,我哪里会作诗呢?”贾母笑道:“别客气,你们年轻人,应该多交流交流。”于是宝玉和史湘云便开始对诗。

宝玉道:“绿杨烟外晓寒轻,红杏枝头春意闹。”史湘云接口道:“燕子来时新社,梨花落后清明。”宝玉道:“池上碧苔三四点,叶底黄鹂一两声。”史湘云接口道:“夜来风雨声,花落知多少。”

You've come at the perfect time." Jia Baoyu hurriedly paid his respects, and Grandma Jia turned to Shi Xiangyun, "I've heard that you're good at poetry. Why don't you have a match with my grandson?" Shi Xiangyun smiled and said, "Grandma Jia, you're too kind; I'm not good at poetry at all." Grandma Jia laughed, "Don't be modest, you young people should interact more." So Jia Baoyu and Shi Xiangyun began to exchange poems.

Jia Baoyu recited, "On the banks of green willows, the morning frost is light; the red peach blossoms are in full bloom, heralding the spring." Shi Xiangyun responded with, "The swallow returns with the new association, after the pear blossoms fall, it's the Qingming Festival." Jia Baoyu continued, "On the pool, a few dots of green moss; beneath the leaves, one or two chirps of the orioles." Shi Xiangyun replied, "Last night, the sound of wind and rain; how many flowers have fallen, no one knows."

Upon hearing this, Jia Baoyu was secretly amazed, thinking to himself, "This Shi girl is extraordinarily talented; how can I compare to her?" He became even more infatuated with Shi Xiangyun.
